REQUEST TO (IOVERNMENT
A point raised by the building inspector in liis report found ready amplification at the meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council las't Mond/ay when it was decided to approach the Government urging that a condi/tion of the tenancy of State houses in future be that the occupier must comply with the Borough By-laws.
Tlie discussion centred round the erection of rough car shelters erected by occupiers of Government houses. One structure was on Ij T crude in the first instance but had been covered over by sheet zinc from case lining and the whole appearance was not in line with the standard required by the Borough By-laws. The clerk was directed to write the Housing Department objecting to' the building, seeking it* removal and also seeking co-ope'ration along the previously mentfotted lilies 7 .
