OBITUARY

MR M. C. RYAN j The late Mr Michael Cooney Ryan, whose death occurred at Nukuhou on July 2G, was born in Tipperary, south-midland county of Eire (Ireland). in 185."), his father being the late Mr Timothy Ryan. Deceased came out to Queensland about the year 1870 and was on the goldfields there lor some time. When the gold rush set in at Kumara, South Island. N.Z., he came to this country, working for a time at Kumara. He spent some years around the Wellington and Napier districts and was also at Wanganui for a time, where he met Miss Susan Parker, eldest daughter of the late C. J. Parker, of. Gisborne, and they were; married. After farming for a few years in Wanganui he moved to Colyton in the Feilding district, where he again took up farming. He came to the Opotiki district, purchasing the late Mir J. P. Murray's property at Nukuhou North. For several years he greatly improved the farm and then in 1913 he retired to Auckland where he lived for 29 years up to the time of his wife's death about two' months ago. Mr Riyan then came to live with his son at Nukuhou. : He leaves one son and one daughter, Mr C. Ryan, of Nukuhou North and Mrs Jack Martyn, of Raglan. Another son, John, died in 1908. There are also seven grand-children.
