KILLED IN ACTION PTE. H. T. McGOUGAN The death in action of Pte. Harold Turnbull McGougan, of Taneatua, removed a keen and; promising young man from the district. Aged 34 he was educated at Opouriao and as a young man was a keen sportsman, enjoying football, fishing, pig hunting and deer srtalking. In the latter sport he especially excelled and many a fine head fell to his rifle. He was allso interested in engineering and spent much time in his workshop.
Enlisting early he left with the 3rd Echelon in the H.Q. Company of the 24th Auckland Battalion. He saw service in Greece as a truck driver and was later transferred to the Bren Gun Carriers. In the secondi Libyan drive he participated and later in the rush ©f the New Zealanders from, Syria to .Egypt to sitem Rommel's advance. He presumably met his death while serving in the Bren Gun section.
The deepest sympathy will be felt for his family and relatives.
