YOUNG MAORI WOMAN GIVEN ANOTHER CHANCE A young married woman (Maori) Marie Timani appeared before Messrs G. A. Brabant and J. G. Mulholland, J.P's, on Monday morrti'ng on a charge of theft of £9 in money the property of James Hunia. Sergeant Farrell stated that the accused went to the pictures at Matata on the date in question and alter they came out she went to the domestic quarters of the Matata Hotel and later went into the bedroom occupied by James Hunia and took the money from his clothing. She Avent to Tauranga the next day and spent the money in clothes and taxi fares. She is a married Avoman and her husband is at the Avar. On account of her conduct she has lost her alloAA*ance and has been causing no end of trouble. She Avas recently employed at an hotel in Hamilton but left. She AA-Zill not live Avith her people and Avas living Avith another Maori but has hoav left him.

The bench intimated that they did not want to send the woman to gaol and would give her another chance so decided to convict and order her to come lip for sentence if called upon within three months. An order was made for the restitution of the amount stolen.
