MRS R. BLACK FAREWELLED* Many friends of Mrs R. YVaimana, assembled in the Wai- ' mana Hall last Wednesday afternoon .r to bid her farewell. Mrs; Black has resided in Waimana for 41 years; and during the afternoon she relat-?> ed maily of her pioneering day experiences, "which were most interesting. The afternoon was spent in competitions, and social chat. A ' musical parcel was won by Mrs Luttrell.

After a dainty tea had been served Mrs Woolfield, on behalf of the : ladies of Waimana and Nukuliou, presented Mrs: Black with a beautiful bedroom carpet and a crystal and silver bowl . Mrs Woolfield spoke of the wonderful work Mrs Black - had, done to help the district, how she would be missed from the. Ms meetings,. She had been, an member of. the W.I. for many years*

Mrs Black suitably- responded thanking Mrs Woolfield and all pre-: sent. All then joined in singing "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow" and "Auld Lang Syne."

GARDENING CIRCLE , The monthly meetiing of the Wai-t mana-Nukuhou W.I. gardening circle was held at Mrs Wylde's. home last Thursday afternoon. There was a good attendance of members and Mrs J. Addison presided. The making of an asparagus bed and its, cultivation! was 1 well discussed, and also the treatment of daphne bushes. The day's competitions were 1 :—• Bowl of violets, Mrs King 1; Mrs Hughes 2; Miss Hughes 3. Shoulder spray, Mrs Stevenson 1; Mirs Hughes 2; Miss Hughes 3. Best flower, Mrs Hughes; 1; Mrs Wykle 2;, Miss Hughes 3. Best vegetable, Miss Hughes 1: Mrs Wylde 2; Mrs'Hughes 3. A competition arranged by, Mrs Wylde was won by Mrs King and Mrs T. Mitchell won second place. A dainty afternoon tea was served by Mrs and Miss Hughes .
