UNUSUAL INCIDENT
CANINE INTELLIGENCE
DOG RETURNS HOME
An unusual example of the rc niarkabie intelligence possessed tov some of the so-'called lower animals is related by a Korakonui farmer. Oid Toby, an all-purpose farm dog, was given to a Matamata man. who took him home and kept him tied up for a "week. The man then unchained the dog, after walking a distance down the tarm, discoveied that the animal had disappeared.
For two days Toby's movements were known only to himself, but at about 3.30 o'clock on a recent atteinoon lie trotted triumphantly up to the door of his old Korakonui home., little the worse for a 4(>-mile journey from Matainata —incidentally, a journey originally made at night. Kven if canine intelligence is not worthy of man's recognition, canine faithfulness certainly is, and Toby is to spend the remainder of his days at Korakonui.
