DOES IT LIE?

AND HOW 1

JERSEY BREEDERS ON CAM Eli A

"J t is said that the camera cannot lie, but tliis is one of the basest lies ever uttered. The camera can be made to do anything." The above comment was made b.v a member of the Matamata Jersey Club when photographs of V.H.C. cows reproduced in a paper were handed round for inspection ami comparison. Members supported this view and another member emphasised that a "retoucher" could, eliminate, almost any dci'ect which a beast might have. Still another member gave as instance of the picture of a bull oi-< fered for sale which was in reality the bull's father. Never Did Justice The president, in facetious tones, and amid laughter, reminded members that no one had yet been satisfied with the photo of his best girl or oven that of father. Such photographs never did them justice. The previous, speaker : Yet, but they cannot shove the photograph of the son in for the father. (Renewed laughter). Another member of wide experience pointed out that if a strong magnifying glass was used the "retoucher's" work could be spotted, even if they had given an animal a ne)w head. Members agreed that pho-tographs depended very largely on the photographer and could not always: be relied upon, but there was little that could be done in the matter as breeders had a right to so advertise their stock.
