BURKE—MAGDONALD A pretty wedding of local interest was celebrated at the Waimana Church on Wednesday, July 15, when Ruth Winnifred. only daughter of Mr and Mrs N. J. C. Macdon aid, Nukuhou North, was united in matrimony to Thomas Malcolm, eldest son of Mr and Mrs; T. Burke l , Wainui. The Rev. Salt, of Opotiki, officiated. The bride, who entered the church with her father, Avore a charming gown of beautiful Avhite satin, fashioned on Princess lines. The bodice was slightly gathered down the front from a heart shaped neckline. The sleeves were finished with tiny buttons at the back from below the elbow and fitted closely at the wrists. Her dainty tulle veil fell in graceful folds from a coronet of orange blossoms. Hand embroidered true-lovers-knots daintily offset the veil. She also wore a golden chain and cross, the gift from the bridegroom, and carried a shower bouquet of cream rose buds;-"double white daisies, snowflakes and fern.
She was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss Colleen Burke (sister of the bridegroom) and Miss Margaret Woolfield. Both were frocked alike in pretty forget-me-not blue taffeta ankle length gowns, cut on Princess lines with wide sashes and silver shoes. Their shoulder length veils were of toning blue tulle, worn off the face, and held in place by a spray of velvet flowers. They carried bouquets of pink and white carqelias, daphne, heather and fern. The bridesmaids also wore gold brooches set with pearls and sapphires, the gift of the bridegroom. Private F. Burke attended as best man and Mr M. Tipping as grooms*man. The church had been artistically decorated by friends of the bride, and Mrs Jerram played the wedding music. The reception was held in the Waimana Hall, where about 70 guests were received by Mr and Mrs Maedonald, assisted by Mr and Mrs Burke. Mrs Macdonald chose a' smart navy suit, with matching accessories and carried a bouquet of red .camelias. daphne and fern. Mrs Burke, Sen., wore a navy costume and hat, accessories and furs to match and carried a bouquet of r.oses, stock * and asparagus fern. Mrs Burke (Warkworth) grandmother of the bridegroom, wore a navy frock and coat, and held a bouquet of daphne and Mrs J. King (Whakatane), grandmother of the bridegroom,, was in a smart teat green costume and matching accessories and carried violets and heather. Mr J. L. Burnett officiated as toast master at the breakfast, where a tliree-itiered cake, made and icetl by Mrs Woolfield, took pride of place. The tables were cjpcoratad with pink and white flowers. Many telegrams conveying best wishes were read by the best man. Mr and Mrs Burke left later by car, the bride travelling in a smart navy costume, hat and accessories to match. The newly weds were the recipients of many beautiful and useful gifts.
