Taneatua Domain Grant The County Council has authorised its usual grant of £10 to the Taneatua Domain Board. This- sum "will bo levied equally against the Opouriao and Taneatua riding funds. Whakalane Horse Fair A horse fair will be held in Whakatane' on Tuesday, August 11, at which 250 horses will be offered for sale. The entry includes a consignment of 24 broken-in draught horses from the South island. Magnetic Truck's Haul When the P.W.D. magnetic uuck last visited Whakatane it operated on County roads for some; 28 hours and-the cost Avas £17 10s. The actual result was the collection of no less than 1151 lbs of metal which would otherwise have been left broadcast on the roadways. Mrs H. J. E. Searle Farewelled Last week a pleasant little gathering of members of the Anglican Lad its' Guild took place for the purpose of fare-welling Mrs H. J. E. Searle who left with her family last Monday for Te Puke. Some twentytwo members were present and the guest of the occasion was presented with a handsome ornamental vase. Bay Patriotic Collections The monthly financial statement issued by the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council shows that, to May 30, the patriotic collections in the Bay of Plenty are as follows: Eastern Bay of Plenty Zone (Zone G), Opotiki and Whakatane) £7744 16s 8d; Western Bay of Plenty Zone (Zone I\), including Tauranga and Te Puke) £2345 7s sd. Taneatua Public Convenience Steps have now been taken by the Whakatane County Council to approach the Auckland Education Board seeking the purchase of a section 40 x 40 feet from an existing reserve in the township. When this sale is secured steps will be taken to prepare plans and specifications for the erection of the much needed public convenience in that township. Ecl'gecumbe Water Supply
The Whakatane County Council has decided that the charge for water to non-rateable properties at Edgecumbe be at the rate of 2/f5 per 1000 gallons with a minimum annual chargcof £4 per house or building section —that owners of all nonrateable property be communicated with and given the opportunity of making application now for water supply connections, applicants to pay in cash for the necessary meter. Thorns in the Wool After inspecting a pen cf fat sheep at the Aldington yards, recently, many buyers treated the nexi few pens Avith extreme caution, states the Star-Sun. The sheep in this particular pen had . evidently been grazing in a paddock with plenty of thistlas in it, and many prickles had accumulated in their wool. Buyers thrusting their hands forcibly into the wool to gather some idea of the value of the sheep, withdrew them sharply, and had to spend some time picking thorns out of their fingers.
