RACING NOTES
FROM A GOOD FAMILY The Victoria Grand National Hurdles winner Saul is a six year old by DaAnd, from the New Zealand* bred mare, Miss Quex. Miss Quex is by Lord Quex from the imported Miss Cute, and AA~as bred by Mr T. H. LoAvry at OkaAva. She is a halfsister to April Fool, dam of Beaupartir, Scandal and Lambourn. ADDITIONS TO TEAM S. McGreal has had two additions to his team at Hawera in Duncroon, a sister to Duncannon, and the speedy but unreliable Lady Derby. Duncroon is a rising three year old and has not been raced. She was to haA'e made her deput in March, but \A _ as prevented from doing so by shin soreness. She is a good tj r pe of filly, a better looker than either Duncan-' non or Dungloe. SHOWING PROMISE Farcical, runner-up to Regal Night in the Trial Plate at Trentham, is raced in partnership by Mr H. R. Chalmers, newly-elected President of the New Zealand Racing Conference, and Mrs Chalmers. This Avas Farcical's third start only, and he gave promise of better deeds to come. He is a broAvn two year old colt: by Plialeron Bay from Droll, Avhich Avas by Captain Bunsby from Drolatique by Black Jester. This is all imported blood. IN RANKS . AGAIN The Trentham trainer, H. A. Telford, Avho has been inactive for some time past, is back in the ranks again. He has in work Astros, a grey gelding by Tlieio from Asturisca, rising three year old, and grown appreciably during his spell, and a nicely-* turned chestnut lilly by Tiderace from My; Own. The latter, rising two years, will race as Caithness when her turn comes. Enrich is due to be taken up, but Avill be giA'en road AA'ork before resuming track activities. FATHER AND SON Reference has already been made in the Southland Times to the Sydney apprentice George Young winning the valuable Newcastle Cup on Goose Boj t , bj r Wee Warrah, by Magpie. It is interesting to recall that the boy's father, avcll known as Gloaming's regular pilot, and who liAed in Invercargill as first horseman to a local owner, also AA'on the same race in 1929 on the imported English horse Honan, by Chauqer, by St. Simon. George Young was a trainer at RandAvick, but handed in his license some months ago to sen r e in the A.I.F.
