WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
WHAKATANE MEETING The July meeting of the Women's Institute was held in the Methodist Hall, Mrs Stewart presiding over hn excellent attendance. The meeting.., opened with the singing of the Institute song, and the reading of the motto for the day. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A pamphlet was received re the collection of old files to conserve steel supplies. It was decided that at the August meeting a bring and buy of surprise packets be held, the proceeds to be donated to the Insti-> tute for the Blind. A letter was received from the president of the Institute intimating that he would endeavour to attend the August meeting of the Wliakatane Women's Institute. One dozen pairs of pyjamas from the Red Cross were distributed amongst members willing to sew these garments. The- roll call, "A short extract of news from the papers," produced some varied and interesting topics. The first aid talk given by Mrs. MilK er on the use of the triangular bandage held everyone's interest. A travel talk, delivered in a breezy style by Mrs Pearson, proved very enjoj'able. Two songs rendered by the* music circle were appreciated. Competitions were, as follows:—■ Three parsnips, Mrs Hannah 1. Six violets, Mrs King 1, Mrs Moran 2. Patchwork quilt, Mrs Norman 2, Mrs Moran 2. The meeting closed with the New Zealand Anthem.
