DOMAIN BOARD MEETS
FOSTERING' THE RESERVES
Reports on the popularity of the newly cheated playing area and the improved appearance of the southern reserve since it was grassed occu;pied the meeting of the Ohope Domain Board last Tuesday. Rev. J. G. Laughton presided and stated that he desired to see more of the tree planting programme put into effect before the spring. The secretary Avas instructed to order at once 3 dozen pohutukaAvas and 2 dozen Ngaios, Avhich Avill be handed • over to the Beach Committee for planting. LeaA-e of absence for 12 months vAvas granted Mr C. 11. Brebner. ' The unsatisfactory nature of the •water supply to the bathing sheds Avas mentioned by Mr F. Mahy Avho said that the caretaker had to carry most of the Avater needed to. keep the shed flushed. He said that the rain Avas continually blocked and further that a fault in the dam made it impossible to retain a full supply. The matter of .investigating the position was left in the hands of Messrs Mahy and McCready Avith poAver to effect repairs Avithin reason. The resignations of Messrs H. C. Kennedy and G. Kingsley-Smith Ave re reeei\*ecl with regret . Steps Avill be taken to replace both mem.brs. The secretary read details of the financial statement going forward to the Department Avhich shoAved a -credit balance of £37. Items mentioned as having been completed during the year, Avere the children's playing apparatus, the grassing of the :neAV reserve, erection of seating accommodation and the construction of the Learn-to-SAvim Pool.
