MAORI SENTENCED
ARMED WITH OYSTER KNIFE

In the Whakatane Court last Monday morning Edward James Makoare was charged before Messrs G. A. Brabant and G. R. Kent, J.P's, with being a rogue and vagabond in that he was found at night armed, with an offensive weapon to wit an oyster knife.
Seregant Farrell said the defendant was living with another Maori's wife and she left him and Avent home to her father-in-laAv's residence. Between 11 and 12 p.m. on Saturday the defendant Avas found in the passageAvay of the residence where, the woman was staying and he Avas holding the oyster knife in his hand —■ obviously ready for an attack.
