■ INCREASE IN MENINGITIS DEATH-RATE NOW LOW A statement on the incidence of eerebro-spinal meningitis was made by the Minister of Health, the Hon. A. H. Nordmcyer. "This disease is never entirely absent from the Dominion," said the Minister. "From 1985, the following cases have occurred annually: 12, 16, 18, 2G, 25 and 20. Last year, however, there was a steep rise to 210 cases, with 25 deaths, and in the first half of this year there have been already 260 eases. The figure for the last two weeks were 3(i, with two deaths, and 33, with live deaths. "With the introduction of sulphapyradinc and allied drugs, cerebrospinal fever has been robbed of much of' its former terrors, and the number of -deaths is relatively low,'" added the Minister, who advised against people congregating in crowds.
