RECORD MANGOLDS
FURTHER ACHIEVEMENT
HAWKE'S BAY SCHOOL BOY
The recent article appearing in the 'Beacon' relative to the achievement of a North Taranaki girl who grew in a composite crop mangolds calculated to average 110 tons per acre has prompted a correspondent on (low's Road to Avrite in giving details of her son's performance at Hawke's Bay which is even better than the Taranaki record. Mrs ]•:. A. Bell, writes as under:— 1 have on the table beside me my son's certilicate of merit and a splen-did-silver and enamel medal presented to him for mangold growing in Southern Hawke's Bay when he came first in the competition Avith 112 tons to the acre. I have also his notes Avhich are recorded on an official certificate as to cultivation etc. Though this occurred in 1935 Avlien my son Avas a sixth standard boy it will nevertheless be of interest. From the above it Avill be seen that the Taranaki claim to a Dominion record is groundless.
