RED TAPE

SCENE IN LOCAL P.O

Seeking a short cut by what he considered a reasonable method of saving time in the exhaustive busi-» ness of car registration a local car owner, approached the officer in the local P.O. and suggested that he might assist by making known to him the chassis and engine numbers which he had entered last year in order to save him a further irritating search of the same car. "We are not allowed under any circumstances to divulge those numbers," came the astonishing reply. The owner lisped out something about the car being his own proper tj r and he saw no harm in being told the number of his own vehicle. All was in vain, the wheels of officialdom must continue to go their own brainless and cumbersome way, irrespective of the fact that a moments reference to the iile would have saved the owner a trip back to his garage where lizzie lay parked and a lot of crawling about under her body to elicit the identical information. Just as long as we continue to have red tape .such as this cluttering up the routine of car registration so we can expect resentment and chargrin on. the part of the public. While not seeking to blame the registration clerk. Ave do soundly condemn the shortsightedness of a regulation which seems especially designed to aggravate in these days of little leisure and increasing responsibilities.
