PATRIOTIC FUND

THE MAYOR'S APPEAL

GREATER LOCAL EFFORT

The following individual appeal hat* been made by His Worship llie Mayor (Mr 15. S. Harry) to the residents of Whakalane:— In February last I wrote to residents explaining that it was proposed to raise the bulk of our quota of this year's Patriotic Appeal by the donation or direct giving method. The amount of the quota is £2306. Donations to date have includ'ed some very substantial amounts but a balance of £1153 has yet. to be found, and this will be possible under the system adopted, which appears to have received general favour, only if citizens will maintain and increase the amount of their individual contributions. The quota is equivalent to the giving of £1 per head of population (man, woman find child) of our district, and while it is obvious that many may not be able to give to thiis extent others undeniably are in the position to give greaitly in excess, but few only have done so. Some have chosen to make a .single donation covering the period of the Appeal, and I would ask these donors to consider making a further contribution to this most worthy object. Further sumn so donated, may be paid to the collector in your area or forwarded to the Borough office. To thoste who are contributing monthly might I make a request for increased support wherever possible. Even the smallest increase will in the aggregate amount to a substantial sum. I wish again earnestly to commend this Appeal to you for your added support, that we may bei enabled fully to subscribe our quota, which all will admit is) little enough, and no less than our fair share of assistance to the men of the Fighting Services.
