There are many curious trees in the world, but one. of the most remarkable, says an overseas writer, is knoAvn as the Sneezing Tree. It grows in South Africa, and is so called because no one can stay near a specimen without a prolonged fit of sneezing. This is caused by a certain oil in the tree. A whiff of this has a most irritating effect on the eyes and nose. When sawdust from this tree is thrown about, it has the same effect as pepper. Insects do not attack the tree, and so the wood is very valuable for'making furniture in the tropics, where wood borers are so destructive. Unfortunately men find it difficult to work with, and even when a piece of cloth is tied round nose and mouth, it does not always prevent violent and long attacks of sneezing. ; *
