MANPOWER

THE GOVERNMENT'S TASK SHOULD TACKLE IT NOW Referring to the manpower problem in New Zealand Mr J. L. Bun nett, County E.P. S. Warden, at the meeting oi' district wardens yesterdajr said that it was a matter the Government should have tackled long ago. In the Whakatane district there was definitely not sufficient male personnel to staff the two organisations—E.P.S. and Home Guard and it was a pity, when they had, almost reached the cross-roads that steps were not being taken to put. the whole manpower question upon a more businesslike basis. He shuddered to think what would happen if an emergency should occur at the present time. It Avas a Government responsibility to take the whole matter up seriously and give the people something of a definite guide.
