ORYEST JUNE ON RECORD LIGHT RAIN FALLS After enjoying the phenomenon of no less than 24 consecutive fine days and 19 frosts, varying from 3 to 9 degrees, the weather broke yesterday on the last day of the month. June, 1942, as far as Whakatane is concerned Avas the driest on record the fall being only .38 inches, which was recorded on three days. Farmers commenting on the position claim that they have never experienced so dry a winter. As a result fliey anticipate an early and bountiful spring. The wettest June occurred in 1923 when 10.80 inches were registered— just thirty times as much as has fallon this year. The total for the present year to date is also a record for dryness being only 10.44 inches. Against this the wettest six months for Whakatane occurred in 1924 when the fall w T as 45.25 inches or over four times as much.
