SIDE LIGHTS ON PARLIAMENT
X-v Sir,—This, our last session from. ■ the House which opened, on June 23 ' will be an epoch in the history of New Zealand. Hereafter we are to foe ruled by thirteen good men and: true, which goes without saying. It was interesting to note how bers of .both sides of the House con-< • demned the Government for suppression of speech, press and radio - whilst they were under time limit to speak. It would,Aave been good for the Editor of iPie Wanganui Chronicle to have heard the Member for Tauranga speaking for Free Speech, but his reference to "New Order" did not seem to fit m so well, as he said we would have to conform to the "New Order," under Empire reconstruction. If he spoke with authority, it would Interesting to know whether we would still (the British Commonwealth) be free men. If the "New Order" 1 comes under the Orthodox Banking System as propounded by Wall Street there is nothing to look forward to after the* war. It was pathetic to note 1 the appeals for manpower for the farms and get the answer that farming had not been declared an essential in--, clustry. Therefore tlie Army first call for its quota. Neither the Army or the Government umfeF these conditions seem to recognise the seriousness of the position for neither can work on an empty stom- , ach. There will soon be a shortage of food for want of labour to pro-, duce it. Yours etc.. W. -
