RACING NOTES
F. GILCHRIST'S TEAM A rising two year old filly by Cambria Park —Towyn has recently joined F. Gilchrist's team. The newcomer is a well-grown youngster and closely related to that one-time good handicap horse Kiltowyn. This trainer also has Last Survey, Kellj 7 , Toorley Street, British Camp and Play Girl in regular work. Although getting on in years, Kelly is steadily coming into racing shape again, and is showing plenty of pace in his work. A MATE FOR ORELIO One of the first mares to be served by the Limond entire Orelio will be Messrs Nicholson and Davis' Queen Mai-ch, founder of a fine group o.f winners, and'a mare which should reasonably be expected to furnish an excellent opportunity for a new sire of Orelio's potentialities. Kace Fox, an unraced rising four year old by Foxbridge—Vera Acre, is being sent to Revelation, and Queen City, who was retired after the June meeting, goes to Cambridge to be mated with Footbridge. SPELLING AT WHAKATANE The Surveyor representative, Sur-veyor-General, is spelling just now on his owner's place at Whakatane. He will probably be in the jumping brigade next season, in which department he should be quite a payable proposition. THE WELLINGTON STEEPLES The Auckland Provincial horses entered for the Wellington Steeplechase to be run next Saturday are Conflagration, Clansman, and Smilin* Thru. RACING ON THREE SATURDAYS It has now been decided that the Grand National meeting shall lie held 011 August 8 and 15. The Christ-churt'-h Hunt Club Avill hold its meeting on August 1, so there will be racing at Riccarlon on three successive Saturdays. A BIG ATTRACTION Although the date for the next Auckland Cup is six months away interest is already being taken in the two mile event, for it is considered there is more than a probability of Beau Vite and Kindergarten meeting in a battle for supremacy. In the meantime Beau Vite is in stead}" work in view of the* Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, while Kindergarten is having his winter holiday at his owner's property, Gisborne. RE-COMMISSIONED The Takanini trained Te Kawiti who races in the colours of the Hon. E. R. Davis and Oliver Nicholson of Auckland, has again been brought in after a few months' spell, necessitated by unsoundness. By Night Raid from Queen March he is class enough to Avin big races, and if he stands a thorough preparation this time he is practically certain to be a ver3 r payable proposition. KING REY RETIRED News is to hand to the effcct that the veteran King Rey lias at last failed to stand up to a thorough preparation, probably owing to the injury he received at Matamata nearly 12 months ago. The Raceful— Hilmar gelding was quite one of the best handicap horses seen cut in the Auckland province for many years, and Mr N. Graf as' team has been unmistakably weakened by his defection. and also by the recent breakdown of Greek Queen. RAN A FAIR RACE The Auckland owned Classic, was expected to play a prominent part In the decision of the Ngata Hack Hurdles at Awapuni. He had every chance, being one of the leaders in running, but he did not finish on well, although, he was fourth at the judge. Classic may be benefited by the race and should improve on that performance before very long. CHANGE OF STABLES The speedy Miss Wheriko is now a member of A. McArthur's Matamata team. When well she is very brilliant and is in the right hands to show her galloping ability very soon.
