EVACUATION

RANGITALKI CAN TAKE 1726 E.P.S.O. REPORT In a reccnt report the E.P.S.O. of the Rangitaiki area stated with regard to the recepiton of evacuees from the town that 1726 could be comfortably accommodated by homes in the Rangitaiki area. A considerably greater number could be housed and cared for if the need became imperative. Regarding evacuation from the Rangitaiki it was stated that there was approximately 3000 people (600 children under 10) apart from Maoris, to be evacuated from the area. Mr A. O. Stewart is organising an evacuation scheme on behalf of the Natives. The Natives possess few cars and there are practically no vehicles availalile for the transport of this section of the Rangitaiki population.
