WHALES SIGHTED

OFF OPOTIKI BEACH ' While Mr and Mrs W. Walker, 'of Wli'arf' Road, were out in the' Bay last week they observed three humpbacked whales and one right whale. The whales were all close to the ■Opotiki bech. The three hump-back-ed whales cruised along the shore in the direction of Opape while the right whale was seen to make off in the direction of the spot known as the Waiotahi rock. A; day or two previously three "killer whales wer also seen close off shore close to Opotiki. It is most unusual for such a number of whales to be seen so close in shore. Ohope residents at the northern end also report having seen several whales recently sporting about in the deep water beyond the first breaker line.
