REAL DEMOCRACY
The Czechoslovaks in exile have their miniature Parliament. The new Chairman of the State Council is Prokop Maxa, who helped Masaryk to organise and direct the Czech Legion in Russia during the last war. After the war Maxa filled important diplomatic jiositions, such as that of Czechoslovak Minister in Warsaw and Sofia, and was famous for being on excellent terms with j the Slav peoples. The former Chairman of the State Council, Rudolf Bechyne, and the Vice-Chairman, Dr Milan Hodza, are now simple members. The present Council has four Vice-Chairmen: Mgr. Pavel Machacek (Slovak Catholic), Bolrumil Lausman (former Social Democratic member of Parliament), Prof. Vladimir Klecanda (a politician who took a leading part in organising the Czechoslovak underground movement), and Dr Jan Pauliny-T'oth (former Chairman of the Slovak national party, who has only recently come to this
country). From the Communist group, which has been fully co-oper-ating in the Czechoslovak liberation movement, four members have been selected, all of them former members of the Gzechslovak Parliament. They are Anezka Hodinova, Karel Kreibich (a Sudeten-German), Vaclav Nosck, and Josef Valo. Some former members of the Social Democratic party have also been appointed: Pavel Viboch, who came to England recently with the Czechoslovak Air Force detachment from the Near East, find Vaclav Majer, who has been serving as a sergeant in the Czechoslovak army. Arnost Frischer, the former president of the Jewish national party, has also been nominated.
