GISBORNE MAIZE DELIVERIES HEAVY HOLD-OVER SUPPLIES Under the arrangement whereby the Internal Marketing Division is assuming responsibility for ail the unsold maize from last year's harvest, heavy supplies, have' been received by Gisborne merchants (hiring tlie past few weeks, and much of it has been shipped away both to northern and southern ports. The shelling of the old crop is now practically completed, and those stocks which have not been sent away have found space in local stores. Bay ot Plenty deliveries are reported to have been slow owing to broken Aveathcr. The picking of the Gisborne new season's crop has started in earnest. Sufficient has been picked to bear out earlier expectations that in the main it would not be as as heavy a yield as the crop last year. Some good crops are in the district, but most are lighter by far than the previous picking. With the smaller area, the total production is expected to be substantially down on last year. The Rangitaiki crop this year is also considerably smaller than last The picking is on the main well in hand and it is not anticipated that there will be any labour shortage this year. From a grower of many years standing it is learned that the maize itself is far below the usual local standard.
