INSPECTION
UNITS OF HOME GUARD COL, M. ALDRED IMPRESSED Colonel M. Aldred, District Commandant of the Home Guard! visited' Whakatane yesterday when advantage was taken to inspect certain units of the local Battalion. He was accompanied by Col. J. Herrold, Area Commander, Col. R. Dawes, Army Area Commander, Major ■ C. R. Wilson, Whakatane Battalion Commander and Captain, C. H. Brebner (Headquarters). The local Headquarters Company were paraded in the Domain, where the official party made personal contact with the Ambulance Corps, the Engineers and the Signallers. Col. Aldred was particularly impressed with the ambulance trailei which was designed by the local O.C. Eric Ramson and built by members of his unit. He congratui lated members on their enterprise and spirit. The Infantry were also inspected on the golf links at Hillcrcst where Col. Andred made a point of contacting the officers.
Speaking before his departure for Rotorua, Col. Aldred said he had nothing but the highest praise for the manner in which the Whakatane Battalion had continued to: train under so many difficulties. He complimented the men on their interest and loyalty which had enabled them to reach sucn a gratifying standard.
