Both a curfew and a blackout have been ordered for the town ot Ponta do Delgada, which is the capital of San Miguel, Azores, according to recent arrivals by ship from the islands. The ord-M* for thisi first
blackout in the Azores was given by the Assistant Civil Governor of San Miguel, wtio ordered that in the Ov'ent of three shots fired from a
cannon, the entire population, including consular officials of every nationality, must proceed immediately to the football field on pain of the severest penalty in the event, of non-compliance. The arrival and departure of shipping has been considerably tightened up, ships arc not allowed to enter the harbour until new and strict formalities have been fulfilled. All ships in the harbour must also obey full blackout regulations. These new measures are not to any particular alarm but show the determination of the Portuguese troops in the Azores not to be caught unawares by any eventuality from any direction-
