AMPLE SUGAR CROP

HARVEST IN AUSTRALIA

Australia's 1942 sugar crop would be more than adequate to meet Australia's needs,, said the Minister for Customs, Senator Keane, in the Senate, says a message from Canberra.

A quantity would be available for export, he added. Harvesting would commence shortly, and efforts were being made to ensure that sufficient labour was available.

Provision had been made whereby labour for the industry might transfer from a protected industry, provided that the men so transferring had been engaged in the sugar industry in the past two years.
