NOT A LIGHT
SUCCESS OF BLACKOUT TEST ■ E.P.S. SERVICE IN ACTION Whatever the dtefects in the first 'blackout' test carried out , dome time ago by the E.P.S. org* anisation, the second one which took place last evening left no- • thing to be desired. The sounding of the siren at 8.20 was the signal for a score of "light wardens' and as many messengers to 'staind to.' at their posts; while the car sirens which went the rounds in the more remote parts of the borough ensured tlie of the alarm. Thcv blackout was almost complete, the offending houses beiing less than the lingers on one hand. Headquarters received the first "message a bare seven minutes aftei • the alarm and thereafter the young r.mners kept the office busy .out the whole of the half hour alert.' The 'works' section also, mustered, -as under genuine conditions while thei official car toured the borough ■to ensure that all wardens were at •'their posts. The traffic net was also another feature that operated drastically, all •vehicles being brought to a standstill 1 until the 'all clear." Commenting on the result, the * Mayor, who is chief warden, stated that it wasi a hundred per cent better than the previous test.
