WAIMANA NOTES

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION MISS J. GROVER HONOURED A most delightful coming of age party was held by Mr and Mrs D. Grover at their home Waimana recently, in honour of their youngest daughter, Jean. The drawing room was tastefully decorated with autumn flowers and foliage, Mrs Grover received her guests wearing' a most becoming, black georgette 1 frock. Miss Sheelali Grover wore a smart black georgette frock and the guest of the evening was frocked in grey georgette and shoulder spray of violets..

The evening was spent at games, competitions, community singing, Chinese checker and 500. Vocal solos were rendered by Mr M. Burke and much enjoyed. A most delicious supper was served, audi the beautiful pink birthday cake, made by Mrs Grover, took pride of place at the supper tables. 1 he cake was decorated with the traditional 21 candles. The usual toasts were honoured and Captain Thomas in reply to the toast to the Army, stated that the Nursing Sisters should always be remembered in that toast, as they were doing a wonderful job of work, and doing it really well, their courage was outstanding at all times. Miss G rover received many beau-j til'ul gifts including a gold wristlet watch from her parents, and many telegrams and letters conveying congraulations from absent friends. Mr L. Ducker, in a few avcll chosen words and on behalf of all' present, thanked Mr and Mirs; Graver for the pleasant evening and stated that he was rather sorry it was 1 the last daughter to be honoured at a 23st birthday party. All then joined in singing "For They Arc Jolly Good Fellows." The guests present were: Mrs A. Bridger, .Mrs Brabant,' Mr and Mrs Thomas, Mr and Mrs Jarre'tt, Mrs M. King, Mr and Mrs J. D. Wardlaw, Mr and Mrs Mannion, Mr and Mrs It. Henderson, Mr and Mrs Ducker, Mr and Mrs Grant, Mrs Mitchell. Mrs H. Hell. Misses S. and J. Grover, Mary Hughes. Nellie' Hughes, Margot and F. Woollield. Fileen Addison, Klsie. Ft'lie and Shirley Addison, Bessie Bel'l, 1!. Macdonald, N. Mitchell. Thora and Lois Moore, B. Wilson. P. Bridget - , C. Bosoward. Messrs It. AYoolfield. Ji. Hughes, It.
