UNABLE TO ATTEND
MINISTER'S ABSENCE FROM CONFERENCE HOSPITAL RATE PROBLEM In answer to the AVhakatano County Council's invitation to him to be present at the forthcoming local body conference, called for the specific purpose of discussing the rising incidence of Hospital taxation, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, Minister of Health, has replied as under: — "I received your letter informing me of the heavy burden Avhich is imposed upon your Council by Hospital Board levies. I note 1 your intention to call a conference! of all rating authorities in your district, and much as I Avould like to bo present, I regret my inability, to attend oAving to pressure of other duties. "You. know, of course, that this is a subject to Avhich I lun T e been giving a great deal of attention recently, and 1 am now having prepared for consideration by Cabinet a number of different schemes for financing public hospitals. 1 should be glad if you Avould be good enough to advise me of the result of the deliberations of the conference, asi the more information I, can collect on this subject, the better armed I Avill be to place the matter before Cabinet.'"
