WEEK-END ACCIDENTS
UNUSUALLY LARGE LIST VARIETY OF MISHAPS Struck by a flying chip of wood, in the eye Mr Les Luxton of Aw&keri was fortunate in that he did not los& the sight of his right eye. He wasr admitted! to tjie Whakatane Hospital last Saturday and is now making, good progress. Boy Dislocates Hip A young boy, John Thorby, of Fenton's mill settlement was also admitted to the hospital with a dis-* located hip; which he sustained when, a punga trunk fell on him in the* bush. His condition is now satisfac-*. tory. Scalded by Lead Mr Percy Rowse was badly scalct-e* ed by molten lead about the facer and eyes last Saturday when engaged in leading the 'monkey' of al pile driver. The mould contained some water which was unnoticed andi, threw the metal out again into the operator's face. His progress since is reported satisfactory, though care will have to be exercised with his right eye. Slipped' on Ice-cream j A discarded ice cream on the pavement caused a painful accident to Mrs A. Parry who* last Friday night slipped and severely wrenched her knee. She was admtted to the hospital and is doing well. Broken Wrist Sustained Miss J. Murray, proprietress of a small shop- at Kopeopeo', had the mis-t fortune to slip down a stairway and fracture, her wrist last Saturdays SHet was admitted to the institution for treatment. Lacerated Fingers The inadvertant slamming of a. car door caught the fingers of Mrs Mclsaac who was also treated in. the hospital recently.
