CHILDREN'S WARD

Sir, —Having been a patient in the. local hospital after having undergone an operation I commend your article regarding the need for a child-" ren's ward. Any patient after a serious operation or an accident, requires absolute quiet and at present the situar- *• tion of the children's ward which adjoins the men's ward makes this impossible. The children's ward is full of Miaori and Pakeha children f from six months, old to 16 years and ~-* the crying that goes on for the~iixJ parents, the squealing and the generally is enough to make one f jump up and never come down again. I can assure you Mr Editor, that the patients and the hospital staff have my sincere sympathy. It is time something was done to* remedy. . the appalling situation. Some of the , children, by the noise they made could not have been very sick and in my opinion a little more discernment could be exercised before they are committed to hospital. If this couldi be done it would have the fervent blessings of all adult patients. » This at least would assist the position to some extent until the. belated ward is constructed. I feel I would like to thank personally Dr Dawson, Matron Runci- ?■ man, the Sisters and the Nurses for their kindness to me when in hospital and I can only hope that they too Avill be relieved of the impossible situation with Avhich they are nowexpected to cope. Yours etc., A. J. CANNING. —■— ! — ~—•- —""— i —" " . -*
