WHAKATANE GREENS SEASON CLOSES The final matches of the current season took place on the Wliakatane greens last week-end when local tournaments: were held in fine weather. The president, Mr R. F. Smith, in reviewing the season said that in spite of the war conditions it had been an intensive and enjoyable one. The membership remained unimpaired and he thought that many had profited from the relaxation which the club had provided. He complimented the winners of the tournament and added that this year many young promising players had made their debut. On Saturday a friendly contest took place the winners being the team which Avon bythe greatest margin of points. Shapley, Baxter, Francis and, Paterson 28 beat Bridger, Chambers. White and Marsh 16. McKenzie, O'Rourke, McLeod and Loane 20 beat King, Salmon, Creeke and Grant 15. O'nei Day Tourney Visitors from Te Puke and Taneatua participated in the one day tournament Avhich for a Avind-up eA*ent Avas one of the most enjoyable of the season. The winners proved to be Loane's team Avho in a section play-off beat the runners- up (Hollls's team) by 10 points to 4.
