SUNDAY EVENING'S MEETING VARIED OPENING PROGRAMME The Awake New Zealand: Whakatane Committee, will the first of its social programmes in the King Street Hall on Sunday evening' next. The proceedings whichi commence at 8.30 and run for an hour and a half will present ai series of items which will be l unique in social entertainment. Quite apart from aiming at the moriatle side of the an effort Avill be made to embrace the interest of those with husfband's, sons and brothers serving in the overseas forces together with those serving in the Home Guard and! also workers in women's organisations. A more spiritual note will be struck with the tuning in for the two minutes silent prayer as Big Ben strikes. Items will intersperse the recital of Home Guard activities; extracts from letters from the front and war commentaries by local commentators. Great interest will attach to a brief addresb by Pilot Max Milner recently returned from Singapore and the Dutch East Indies who will recite some of his experiences. The committee behind the programme will do> its utmost to> make the evning interesting and 1 fully in tune with the ideals of the campaign.
