PRICES IN AUSTRALIA
An employee of the Whakatane Paper Mills Mr J. Murphy, received a surprise letter from an ex-New Zealander now employed by the Lithgow 'Mercury* New South 'Wales. The letter was in response to a note from the recipient which he; put in ai bale of board bound for Australia on, the off chance of receiving a reply. The writer who sftill has la great interest ini his native country gives the following interesting information relative to ruling food prices in Australia: Tobacco 3/6 per 2oz, papers 3 y 2 d, tea (rationed) 4oz per adult per week, beer 6d per half handle, medium sized cabbage 3/6.
