WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
MEETING Tlic monthly meeting of the Whakatane Women's Institvite "was held' recently, fifty-live members attending. At the commencement an instructive lecture was given by Mrs Morice, who dealt with, first aid treatment of burns and! shock. The convenor of the Lady Galway Circle reported that a further 50® garments liad been packed and despatched; for England. A class is to be lieldi every Monday afternoon for the making; of papier mache bowls for E.P.S. purposes. Several, new members were enrolled. A demonstration of the making of eiderdowns from fleece was given by Mrs Lysaglit who exhibited three beautiful eiderdowns made by this method. The process of washing fleece and preparing, the covers fully explained. A pronunciation test, won by Morice, caused much amusement. Competitions were won as follows; Garment from flour bag, Mrs Stewart (child's dress) 1; Mrs Norman (child's dress) 2. Onions, Mrs Matthews 1; Mrs Stewart 2. Chrysanthemums, Mrs; Matthews 1; Mrs Cockburn 2. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses for the afternoon.
