JERSEYS FROM U.S.A.

A very unusual enterprise in present times was eonsumated recently when the famous American importer and breeder, Mr Wallace MacMonnies, of New Jcrse}', U.S.A., landed safely in New Zealand a sliipmcnt of 17 high class stud Jersey sires. Included were three high class bulls bred on Jersey Island. One of these ay as actually bred in the leading herd on the Island and shipped just prior to the outbreak of AYar. -The other two bulls AYere Imported to America in dam. Most of the other bulls in the shipment are by sires imported from Jersey island and the majority are out cf dams that avcto also imported. The Importation of such a large number of outstanding animals representing the best blood strains in the Jersey breed should be of incalculable A-alue to breeders in the Dominion as in the future it ayHI not be possible to duplicate their breeding as there is little doubt that the famous studs on Jersey Island were decimated by the Germans after their occupation. This shipment of cattle had a A'ery eA'entful trip to New Zealand but nil AYere safely landed. Apart from the breeding of these animals some of them have had notable Show careers in the leading State Fairs of America and include Avlnners at the National Dairy Show, the leading Jersey Slioav of the \Yorld. Mr MacMonnies has long been looked on as a man of great enterprise and that he has been able to safely send to the Dominion such a high class

shipment of young Jersey sires in limes like- the present is indeed a most notcAvorthy achievement. The cattle are quarantined in New Zealand fiO days after their landing and ft is intended to sell them at auction at Wellington in June when no doubt breeders from all parts of the Dominion will endeavour to attend as the collection is stated to be the highest in quality ever to have been shipped to NeAv Zealand,
