DEFENCE COUNCIL

BAY OF PLENTY AREA •BOROUGH COUNCIL'S SUPPORT The formation of the Civil Defence Council, to cover the area of the Bay of Plenty and Rotorua was! the subject of a letter from the Mayor of Rotorua to *~ the Whakatane Borough Council last Monday evening. Mr Dansey reiterated the details -of the recent meeting of local body representatives in this town and urged that the fullest support be given the suggestion. Cr Sulllivan said that there -would possibly be some answer to the objectives cf the movement by the recent setting up of the Awake New Zealand Campaign in Whakatane. He thought that support should be afforded both organisations. Cr Creeke asked what, the Government intended doing in the matter. He would like to know what x ofans were already in band for the Guard before voting on the y~- -^subject. The Mayor: I'm afraid I can't tell you that but its up to us to give the Home Guard all the support we .can. Cr Sullivan agreed that the guard had been the Cinderella of the whole outfit. On his motion it was de--cideci to support the proposal.
