COMMISSIONER'S VISIT
LOCAL SCOUTS RALLY SOCIAL EVENING The Dominion Scout Conimissiomr cr, Mr R. Coaksey, who visited Whakatane last Monday entertained the local Scout and Cub troops together with many of their parents to a splendid evening of games, competitions and Scout drill.. Many parents who took advantage of the visit, and attended the Parish Hall received sound food for thought as a result of Mr Cooksey's splendid address. The Scouts haka of welcome, introduced the visitor to the programme ahead of him, and following the committee chairman's welcome, Commissioner Cooksey promptly took charge and provided a most instructive programme which Avas thoroughly enjoyed by all present. Prior to a dainty supper served by the ladies of the committee, the Commissioner gave a very instructive talk on the vital part which, would be played by j T outh in the period of recpnstruction following the war. It was encumbent, upon the present generation, he said, to lay the foundation aright so that the oncoming generation would be prepared and equipped for great things. Upon the youth of the post war period would devolve the responsibility for shaping the world of the future and we could not afford to allow them to accept this responsibility in any other than a serious ami sincere manner. The Commissioner was. <*iven a rousing farewell from the assembled Scouts. He travelled on to Opotiki yesterday morning.
