WAIKATQ BOARD ESTIMATES INCREASE OF £30,.>03 The estimates approved by the Waikato Hospital Board at its montlilv meeting to meet requirements for the 1942-43 financed-year provide !'or maintenance costs at £161,447 lis 4cl, an increase of £30,563 Cs lid over last year's expenditure. The rate of capital and maintenance levy at .401 d in the £ of rateable capital value is an increase on last 3*ear's levy of . 069 d in the £• Salaries and wages at the Waikato Hospital have .been increased from £69,330 to £72.000 to provide for wages for additional staff during the year and annual increases under awards and salaries, and wages for the Rotovua Hospital have been inaeased from £27,691 to £29,000 for the same re ason s. With regard to the £370.000 new building loan, l'or the purpose of the estimates it has been calculated that £231.650 will lie uplifted during the year.
The Waikato Hospital Beard agreed to abiclc. under protest, by the recent general order of the Court of Arbitration for an ineease in -wages, in accordance with a decision of the Hospital Board's Association. The Board expressed the opinion that as members of the Public Service Ave re to share, in the increase all the Board's employees should be included. The court order entailed an increased expenditure of £2311 for Miose working under awards, or £5694 if all employees were included. Mr C. S. B. Macky (Waipa) said fhe house and finance committee took the view that there was not full justification for any increase, but as it was a genera' order of the eourt the committee agreed that all employees shoukl benefit.
