WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

MATATA NOTES The monthly meeting of the Matata Women's Institute was held on Wednesday, April 22. Mrs Magee presided over a good attendance of visitors and members. The afternoon was a Grandmother's day and the meeting was handed over to Mrs H. Withy, who gave a most interesting talk on gardening and hoped that the garden circle would carry on. A short discussion took place on soldiers' parcels. The roll call "Early Childhood Memories" caused considerable amuse menL A hat trimming competition then took place. The winner being Mrs H. Burt. A very amusing recitation was given by Mrs H. Smith. Mrs H. Burt and Mrs Marr sang a duet. A demonstration of spinning was given by Mrs H. Withy. Competitions: Quince jam, Mrs Withy 1; Mrs Magee 2; Mrs Ansell 3. Best flower, Miss Burt 1; Mrs Capper 2; Mrs Ansell 3. Afternoon tea was served by the grandmothers who later had their nliotos taken bv Miss Burt.
