TREES AND RABBITS

LABOURERS' DECORATIVE

CAMOUFLAGE

A talent for decorative art was evidently displayed by Heatlicote County Council labourers when they were set to camouflage a reservoir, according to the description given vO the council by Mr F.. W. Freeman at the last meeting of the council.

"The men were given paint and Instructions," lie said, "but they apparently thCfUght that the enemy would be flying so low that they would see the side view of the scenery, because they painted trees growing on their sides, and after that it was easy enough for them to put birds on the branches and rabbits below. There's been much comment and amusement, but apparently the men did their best within their limited capacities. It seems we've been expecting labourers to do the work of artists."

Mr Freeman suggested that a better plan would he to indicate a path across the reservoir and put blohs beside it to< simulate trees as seen from above. Then perhaps airmen from Wigram might inspect it, he said.
