WHAKATANE GARDENING
CIRCLE
There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Whakatane Women's Institute gardening circle held at Mrs F. Brown's home last Tuesday afternoon. Mrs S. Wheeler presided. After the minutes were read Mrs Kent gave a very interestfng reading on seasonal work in the flower and vegetable garden. Each, member responded to the roll call a garden hint suitable for the present month. Mrs Brown demonstrated layering and taking cuttings of carnations. Mrs McKenzie won the competition a lib jam jar of autumn leaves and berries for effect. Mrs Mulholland Avon the guessing the names of flower seedlings. The hostesses, Mrs Bennett and Mrs Cockburn, served a dainty afternoon tea.
