WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

Manawahe held its monthly meeting on April 2 thirteen members being present. In the absence of the president, Mrs Kane, Mrs Logan, vicepresident, occupied the chair. , Remits for the Dominion Conference were read and votes recorded. The roll call "Women I Admire" resulted in the discussing of. manynoted women, Competition prize for "Best article costing a 1/-" was won by Mrs Logan the article being a very dainty child's apron. Patriotic and sales tables of cooking and produce were- well patronised. Afternoon tea served by Mesdames Farrelly and King brought to a close a very enjoyable afternoon. W.W.S.A. There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting hekl on Saturday, April 11. Mrs King occupied the chair and after minutes of the previous meeting were read, delivered her annual report, in which she commented on the work covered by the branch. The secre- "Hilary, Mrs L. Kendall, then read her report and the balance sheet showed a pleasing amount in hand. The election of officers resulted in the re-election of Mrs King and previous committee. E.P.S. There was a large attendance of Manawahe residents at an E.P.S. meeting held at the hall on Saturday, April 11. The chairman, Mr Macpherson, opened the meeting with the roll call and then introduced two visitors, Mr Lucas, Deputy Chief Controller, and Mr Carling. Mr Lucas gave a very clear and concise address on the functionings of the E.P.S. and clearly defined Manawahe's- part oif the organisation. Mr Carling endorsed Mr Lucas's remarks .• A discussion period followed and then the district wardens were elected. Mr A. Kendall passed a thanks to the visitors. "
