Dear Sir,
Letters to the Editor must be clearly written on one side of the paper only and where a nom-de-plume is used the name of the writer must be included for reference purposes. The Editor reserves the ughi to abridge* amend or withhold any letter or letters. SCHOOL TRENCHES Sir, —As one who was only too glad to volunteer to do a little digging at the school grounds, I must! stay that I feel compelled to draw some attention to the comparatively poor '•esponse from parents. Many of the men who assisted had no children at the school at all, and I know of many instances where parents of small children, who will benefit most, were tooi selfish to he going near. I do not wish to haVe this letter mistaken as praise for my own effort, but I think in all' fairness that attention should be drawn to those who could have been there, yet who were prepared to sit back and allow others to do the work which was going to make the school safer foir their children. If that is the sort of spirit prevailing in Whakatane it is no surprise that only five parents; were interested enough to turn up for the annual meeting of Householders. Yours etc., RESIDENT. *
