BIRTHDAY PARTY
PLAINS RESIDENTS HONOURED Many friends of Mr Daniel Alexander well known and respected re' sident of Edgecumbe, gathered to celebrate his 60th birthday at the home oif Mr and Mrs J. Colebrook on Wednesday, April 1. The evening was pleasantly spent with music and song, the guest of honour contributing songs in Auld Scottish style including "Annie Laurie" and "Rob Roy Mcintosh." Mr and Mrs T. Pierson proved to be popular entertainers with songs and humorcius items. A very dainty supper was served the long table being decorated with sweet peas and a beautifully iced birthday cake was cut by Mr Alexander. Mr J. Colebrook made a presentation of a fountain pen on behalf of friends present and in a pleasing speech referred to the affection and esteem in which Mr Alexander is held and wished liim many more happy birthdays. A toast was drunk and musical honours heartily accorded.
Mr Alexander in reply, thanked lits friends for their gifts and their kind wishes, and said he had lived a full and happy and eventful 60 years and if he was not a rich man at least he had "a fortune' in his friends." The singing of Auld Lang Syne concluded a very happy and successful party. Among those present were: Miami Mrs J. Colebrook; Mr and Mrs G. Colebrook; J. Colebrook, Jnr.; Mr and Mrs G. Webster; Mr and Mrs Harris; Mr and Mrs N'ewdick: Mr and Mrs Sigglekow; Mr and Mrs J. Weir; Mr and Mrs Walker; Mr and Mrs T. Pierson; Mr and Mrs Simpson; Mr and Mrs Snelling.
