Five hundred and sixty-eight gift parcels arc required and these have been allocated, Opotiki Interzone 204 and Whakatane Interzone MiIt will be noted that gift parcels arc scheduled to reach the Board's Store, Wellington, not later than May 31. To enable the despatch of parcels so that such will arrive in Wellington by May 31, it is desired that all parcels shall be left at the County office not later than Monday, May 25. The apportionment of this In terzone's quota of gift parcels, 364, is shown below: — Parcels Hussifs Matata 15 18 Manawalie 9 12 Thornton 37 21 Otakiri 18 23 Te Teko 22 28 Ruatahuna 7 9 Te Whaiti 11 14 Edgecumbe 42 53 Awakeri 29 37 Ngatiawa Maoris 18 23 Taneatua and Opouriao ' 38 49 Ruatoki 18 23 Wainui 7 9 Borough and Oil ope 80 102 Galatea 11 14 Waimana 22 28 364 463 All Purposes Appeal To date the Opotiki Interzone is on its way towards the raising of half its quota. Whakatane on the other hand has yet to raise a fifth. It is very obvious that a definite effort should be made in this area, particularly when it is understood that such districts as Taneatua and Waimana have already taken a firm .grip of the position and are well on the way towards completing their task. It simply means that in other districts little or nothing has been done as yet. The position to date is as under:— Receipts Quota •Opotiki £2435 9 4 £5769 'Whakatane 1902 13 2i 10,481 The above represents the cash position for the current year and does not include the surplus carried forward from last year's effort.
AWAKERI INTERESTS 'COMPREHENSIVE CANVASS PLANNED A Patriotic meeting was held in the Awakeri Hall om March 30 at 8 p.m. There was a good attendance presided over by Mr L. Lux ton. who explained that the main business of the evening would be the devising of ways and means of raising this district's quota for the current year. While periodical functions will probably be held it was felt by a majority that direct giving would be the most satisfactory method of raising the money needed. The district was blocked off and the following volunteered to canvass in the areas named:— Mr J. J. Butler, McLean's Road. Mr F. Sutton, Angle, Luke's and Luxton Roads. Mr H. J. Rj'de, Poroporo area and Station Road. Mr J. Graham, Awakeri Hall to Luxton's Corner. Mr and Mrs A. Barr, Hill' Road. Mr Boulcott, Awakeri Railway Station to Western Drain Road. Mr H. Misseii, Eastern Drain Road (Powdrell's Road). Mr L. Luxton, Main Road from Luxton's Corner towards Whakatane. Mr T. F. Kerr, Awakeri Railway to Whakatane West Railway. Mr Coll Macdonald, Western Drain South to Te Teko CornerMr N. Macdonald, Galatea Road. With the wonderful example of Taneatua and Waimana before them it is expected that Awakeri will respond generously.
