AMAZON BATTALION

NAUGURATED AT EDGECUMBE START MADE IN TRAINING The attendance at the parade ait Edg-ecumbe of women who were interested in training as a fighting unit was highly satisactofry 'and promises to become even more popular as time goes on. A' total of seventeen women were enrolled in what is described as an offensive and' attacking force. In addressing those present, Mr W. G. Bunyan stressed the need for women to be able to defend themselves in case of an emergency such as threatened to-day. He outlined! the type of training which wouldi be embarked upon, and emphasised the fact that efficiency could only be obtained if those training understood the seriousness of the situation. It iis expected that further enrolments will be forthcoming but in the meantime! initial instruction will be given at a special parade to be held this evening.
